Clark, NJ April 2009 From the moment you walked through our door, we knew something special was going to happen. And, oh yes, first impressions are so important. When we decided to build our deck we went online and were contacted by several contractors. We saw 3, of which you were the third. Each of the others came armed with pad, pencil, measuring tape and a business card. You walked through our door with all of the above and a laptop and sample case (that was different). Each one asked what we had in mind; a deck, maybe a patio, how big (we weren’t quite sure about everything yet) etc. Each one (except Gus) measured, nodded their heads, wrote down some figures and said they would get back to us with a quote. You, of course, did the same but then came the big surprise – you asked if we had some time to sit down with you, pulled out your laptop, opened your sample case and the adventure began. No more boring square deck, a whole new world of decks was opened up to us – just what we wanted. We saw designs developing right before our eyes; we could visualize everything right then and there thru his design software, right down to the trim. A hexagon appeared, we moved the staircase around and found where we wanted it. Then came the samples, we found out that there’s more to decks than just Trex. The railings, the lights, it was wonderful (Oh boy! How much was all this beauty going to cost?) But there was no turning back now – we had seen the promised land. In all fairness, we decided to wait for the quotes and check out references. The quotes from the other contractors came back in the mail, as expected. One with a white bread drawing and $$ and one just with $$. Gus, on the other hand, asked if he could give his quote in person and came with his trusty computer and a wonderful spread sheet that broke everything down and flexed to adjust to changes we might want. In addition he had made some wonderful adjustments to the deck design. As you have probably surmised, we checked out references (due diligence) and they were perfect. We negotiated our price, the permits were obtained and work began. This was no small project and we wanted perfection. First came Gabriel, our team leader. He was wonderful. He spoke with us at every point – explained what was happening, answered our questions. What was so reassuring was that every day the same crew appeared (no strangers day-to-day), and worked hard all day. Gus was always available to answer any questions and checked in regularly. We decided to add some features during the construction and again, you responded with great ideas and reasonable pricing. The work was completed in great time and beautifully done, with first class materials and no skimping. When one commits to a construction project, there are always the stories of contractor nightmares that one has and the fear is always there. Well, have no fear, this was a wonderful experience. We are now enjoying our beautiful deck and patio. Everyone who has seen it (including our neighbors) has fallen in love with it.
